George and Margaret Downsbrough in their Nelson Hummingbird

A photo of George and Margaret as competitive sail plane pilots. They soared across the U.S. in their Nelson Hummingbird, a two-seater motorglider. The light engine was powerful enough such that the sailplane could self-launch negating the need of a tow plane. Both George and Margaret were accomplished pilots. At one time, Margaret held the female pilot record for out and return distance.
