The mallet is a product of the Australian Croquet Company. It is hand crafted in Australia by Bryan Dawson a member of the 2000 Australian MacRobertson team.

The mallet head is made of anodized aluminum with plastic faces. The head is 11" long with 2 and 3/4" wide faces. The wide faces provide a very large sweet spot. For American Rules, when marking balls in 9 inches, there is a natural mark (a screw head) that is exactly 9 inches from each end. I particularly like that the mallet doesn't need an artificial groove or line drawn on the mallet to indicate the 9 inch spot.

The mallet head is peripherally weighted which helps keep the mallet in a straight line throughout the swing. There are 4 spots on the head where you can add weights to alter the overall weight of the mallet for varying conditions. As you swing the mallet, you can actually see right thru the head. I find this quite nice as I'm aiming at a target ball for a long roquet.

The craftsmanship of the mallet is superb. I particularly enjoy showing everyone how the screws that make the sight line are all tightened so that the slots in the screw heads are all lined up in the same direction. That level of detail and craftsmanship is evidence throughout the entire mallet. The handle is sized to the exact length requested by the customer; the handle is perfectly aligned with the mallet head; the grip is of high quality, the Dawson decal is precisely applied; etc, etc, etc.

I can't tell you how much I love this mallet. I love the looks - its space age beauty. I love the feel. I love how I don't have to know what to do, the mallet knows! In the words of June Dawson, "It comes fitted with inbuilt radar - you only have to obey the rules and keep your head down. The mallet will do the rest."

The mallet is really is a thing of beauty. And, as they say: "A thing of beauty is a joy forever."
