I was born in the wilderness in a log cabin.... Well,
actually not! I was born in New York City of all places, the Borough
of Queens to be exact, the son of an officer in the United States Air Force,
then stationed at Mitchell Field. My dad was a lawyer in the Air
Force, so it seemed like every few years throughout my childhood we would
move to a new place. I grew up in New York, Colorado, Japan,
California, Utah, Washington, DC, and West Germany. (I use the
designation West Germany because at the time, the cold war was still a very
real thing).
In fact, I spent my last three years of high school at Henry
H. Arnold High School in Wiesbaden. While there I met my future wife,
gained a wonderful appreciation for European culture and history, and became
fascinated with automobile racing, both Grand Prix and Sports/Prototype.
I went to George Washington University, graduating in 1972
with a degree in International Affairs, and went on to a graduate program in
Science, Technology, and Public Policy. While in grad school I started
working for a living, at a local professional services company (commonly
referred to as a 'beltway bandit' and never did write my Master's Thesis,
though I did complete all my course work for my degree).
While living in the Washington, DC area, I worked on several
data systems development projects and eventually moved to Mechanicsburg, PA
when a contract on which I was working was transferred to the U. S. Navy's
Fleet Material Support Office, at the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot.
In the course of my professional life, I've been an
independent consultant working on logistics support issues for several
foreign navies as well as the Office of the Secretary of Defense. I
taught logistics planning and maintenance planning, represented the United
States at several NATO logistics workshops, and have worked on projects for
the U. S. Coast Guard, the U. S. Navy's Civil Engineer Support Office, and
the Naval Sea Systems Command.
Following my work as a "beltway bandit" and an independent
consultant and prior to joining PENNTAP, I worked as a Program and Project
Manager for the International Computer Security Association (ICSA), and ran
the computer product testing laboratory for ICSA labs; was the Chief
Technology Officer for a 'for-profit' spin-off of the Pennsylvania Chamber
of Business and Industry (the State Chamber of Commerce) and was a program
manager for a small computer security product software development company.
My home is a 25 acre farm in Dillsburg, PA and I am in love
with the sea islands of the South Carolina coast in and around the town of
Beaufort.
