Ten below this morning. Toby didn't stay out very
long. Caught this picture
of him on the sofa - he is really growing. Three and a half months old
today. -=Frank=-

There is many truisms with this!
-=Frank=-
Dogs teach us many things .....
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be
pure ecstasy.
When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.
Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
Take naps and stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting, when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and
pout ... run right back and make friends.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you have had enough.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle
them gently.

his blue bone. It
bounces and he likes that. More later. -=Frank=-

Toby has mastered jumping up on the sofa. His
favorite places are now on
the back of the sofa with a high view of what's happening. Pooh Bear
&
Putt-Putt are safe only on top of the hot tub or on the bay window.
Toby's also trying to figure out how to let Eddie the Cat in.
Enjoy. -=Frank=-

Toby with new blanket
Toby has changed bedrooms. He now
sleeps in his large kennel next to the
bed. Jumping out of the box was too much of a temptation for him. He's
also
mastered jumping up on the sofa to get the cats and onto the fireplace
raised hearth to chew the sticks in the wood storage. I think he has
hit
his "terrible twos". He is definitely growing. More later

Spent the last couple of days fencing a yard for
Toby. 20 feet by 30 feet,
hopefully safe and escape proof. Cootter-Bum has already figured out
he can
walk the outside of the fence, irritate Toby, and be out of harm's
way.
Toby seems to take it all in stride. Started working on retrieving. He
will
bring a tennis ball back and his squeaky toy. One of the pictures is
him
doing that in the yard. It's been really warm here, 40 degrees
today. Some snow on the roof melted - causing a mud puddle in the yard
-
you can guess who found it. Toby's been under the weather a little the
last
day or so - cutting his lower rear teeth. Running a little temperature
-
vet checked him. We give him 1/4 children's aspirin twice a day -
perks him
up. He has stopped the chewing - late this afternoon and seems peppier
-
think maybe that last tooth is in. He hasn't been real hungry, but
tonight
he was begging for supper, so I think things are getting right again.
The
second picture is a captured moment. First time in three weeks
Pooh-Bear could lay
down and have a dog laying beside him with tearing his ears off. Puppy
is
starting to grow up - weighs 7 pounds 13 ounces yesterday. Another
first
this morning, after taking Toby out at 5:30AM he actually slept in bed
with
us - most of the time he messing around rather than sleeping, and on
Saturday morning, I like to sleep to at least 7:00AM, which he did.
About all for now. -=Frank=-

Hi Chris, Well, I'm back from work on my day off,
and Toby is napping, so I got a
chance to edit a few pictures. Guess Toby is not napping, just joined
me,
sitting under my chair. Ok, so now he is napping in his office chair.
Quite
a dog. He likes to be with me - I napped with him earlier. I'm on call
today, tomorrow, and the day after Xmas, as Mike is up in the
cities with
his family. Have fun with the pics. Later -=Frank=-

New experience for Toby to night - discovered an ice
cube. Lots of barking and
chasing - wish I had a video. Really enjoy watching him experience new
things for the first time. More later -=Frank=-

RE: Puppy preparation. When the pup is tired, he is
a cuddler, when he isn't he can be a terror.
Bring a pair of jeans and a sweat shirt he
might chew - he doesn't leave holes. We put an object
he can chew in his
mouth
when he starts the chewing behavior - he is getting better. The
humping has
pretty much quit - the vet said it was a behavior to show dominance,
he's
top dog - he's only dog :-)
This morning when the radio went off (6:30am) he jumped out of his box
(20 inch tall box).
Guess he may be sleeping in his kennel at night soon.

Toby Just Fits in Frank's coat
Toby in Vicky's lap
Hi Chris, Yesterday we visited the pup again, spent
about an hour or more. Guess we
have sorta bonded. Was holding pup and he crawled up and licked my
chin and
then proceeded to nibble my ear. He's definitely a keeper. We can get
him
home, weekend after next, but may wait 'til the following Friday as we
plan
to be in the cities that weekend with Kim, and I want to spend several
days
of "one on one" & "one on two" time with him
before we start leaving him
several hours while we are at work. The bonding period is very
important for
a young dog and an old man :-)
One question I asked the breeder, which was really hard for him to
answer,
and has me thinking is this, "What do you do with the male and
female dogs
when they get too old to breed?" He didn't have a clear cut
answer, because
they haven't had to face that question yet and dread having to. He
hoped he
could find homes for older dogs. In the back of my mind, when the time
comes, I would consider adopting Ginger, pup's mom. Her and I
connected
from the first time I met her. That will probably be a few years down
the
road. I attached some more pictures. December 13th he'll be two months
old
and he'll be home. More later -=Frank=-

Hi Chris, Went to the vet's office last night to
drop off left over dog meds, they
put they in a "Good Samaritan Drawer" for pets who need meds
and owners who
can't afford they. They told me about a breeder in Ruthton who had a
12
week old male chocolate & tan pup. Vicky & I pondered it and
decided to
take a look. He wasn't what we were looking for even though he was a
different looking dog, his picture is attached. At any rate, while we
were
there we looked at a three week old litter of pups with their mom. The
mom
was so friendly, eager for attention, and proud of those pups. I
petted
her and their was just something in her eyes that said, one of these
needs
to be yours. Well, you probably guessed it, we picked out a little
buff
male pup. He is small boned like his mom & curly haired like
Chelsea. We
aren't ready for another dog quite yet, but then he isn't ready to
leave
his mom for another 6 to 7 weeks. He is ours if we want him. Attached
is a picture.
