Keeping Up With Technology

What Does an eLSS/Instructional Designer Do?

As part of the Teaching and Learning Center on campus, it is my job to encourage high level of faculty involvement in terms of educational technology adoption, and provide opportunities to share and discuss their teaching practices using:

  • ANGEL
  • Digital Commons and multimedia
  • Adobe Connect
  • Student Response Systems (Clickers)
  • Penn State Blogs, Wikis, and other TLT initiatives
  • Blended and Online Programs under development

Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus

The campus has grown to about 100 acres and 10 buildings: the Eberly Building (named for Orville S. Eberly), the University House, the Williams Building (housing the student center and the Cultural Center), the library, a gymnasium, an engineering building, the Biomedical Technology Building, and several other farm and maintenance buildings. The campus includes a community center housing a 1500-seat arena, 450-seat auditorium, and a cafeteria.

Penn State Fayette now has five baccalaureate degrees in Administration of Justice; Nursing; Human Development and Family Studies; Letters, Arts, and Sciences; and Business Administration. The Digital Commons

The Digital Commons is a university-wide initiative to help enrich students’ educations by creating digital content for their coursework. The Digital Commons will provide all campuses within Penn State with a common set of computing tools, a common set of support materials, and a common set of opportunities to create digital media of all kinds. The Digital Commons will also help educate faculty, staff, and students on the appropriate uses of digital media.

Alternate Course Delivery Methods

Whether it be weather, illness, or emergency situations, Penn State faculty have a variety of alternate course delivery methods available when face to face meetings are not possible or practical. To see a list and description, click here.

Adobe Connect

One possibility is to use Adobe Connect (Breeze) as a virtual classroom. To take a "tour" of Adobe Connect as a classroom click on the link below.
