Selected Projects Energy Resources Center
TWOP, Interior Light Project, Brookfield Zoo, Brookfield, Illinois
Installation completed Spring 1995
Principle Investigator for study to enhance light levels in this major primate exhibit, Tropic World of Primates at Brookfield Zoo. Studied various light enhancing techniques and resulting effects on occupants and building systems. The second phase further developed one technique resulting in specific recommendation. The third phase involved the review and selection of architectural and construction firms to carry out recommendations. The final phase involved acting as liaison between the various parties and the owner during construction of the project.
RECF Prototype, Brookfield Zoo, Brookfield, Illinois
Project completed Fall 1994
Based on the success of the Children's Zoo resource efficient comfort facilities (see below), a prototype building was designed for all future stand alone comfort facilities built at the zoo.
Resource Efficient Comfort Facility, Brookfield Zoo, Brookfield, Illinois
Installation completed Spring 1993
Principle Investigator for concept, design, and construction observation of the Children's Zoo Comfort Facility. The building employs various energy efficient technologies such as super-insulation, air-to-air heat exchangers and a combination space and water heater. The building highlights these technologies with integral graphics geared towards the young users of the facility.
Environmental Habitat Studies Brookfield Zoo, Brookfield, Illinois
Projects completed from 1992 to 1995
Conducted studies to determine the environmental requirements of captive animals and provided recommendations on how to replicate these requirements in an energy efficient manner. Habitats included The Perching Bird House, The Reptile House, and The Tropic World of Primates.

Responsible for initiating Partner User Groups in the six states of Region 5; Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. Responsible for coordinating all aspects of group meetings including assessing and identifying all partners in the region for inclusion in group, contacting and inviting select partners, creating agendas for group meetings, identifying and selecting meeting site locations and facilitating meetings and tracking minutes. In 1994, recommended and implemented the creation of an internet-based information distribution web site.
