An account of the discovery and recovery of the wreck of a Danish trader of the Baltic brigantine type, the Frau Metta Catharina of Flensburg, which foundered in a storm off Plymouth Harbour on the 10th December 1786, bound from St. Petersburg to Genoa. She was discovered on 20 October 1973. The most dramatic find was her cargo of reindeer hides tanned as Russia leather in bundles of six. These have been revived and are marketed today. Some copies of the book were supplied with samples of the leather. Many illustrations. Wrapper.

It was given to a few friends, but never issued. See Quaritch catalogue 908/183. The bindings were destroyed in the fire of 1922, and Sullivan's record (phography and rubbings) are all that remain of a magnificent series of some of the finest bindings ever produced.
