Long position
An investor's position where the number of contracts bought
exceeds the number of contracts sold. For example, someone who is long in a stock owns the stock. Someone who has a long position is a net holder.
The result of buying and holding a financial instrument. This strategy is undertaken when the buyer anticipates a price rise, in which case the buyer earns a profit equal to the price rise.
The opposite of a Short position.
