Grant date

The day on which an employer and employee have a mutual understanding of the terms of a stock-based compensation award. The employer becomes contingently obligated on the grant date to issue equity instruments or transfer assets to employees who fulfill vesting requirements.

For publicly traded companies, the Strike price typically is set equal to the closing price of the stock on the grant date and the Expiration date is often a specified anniversary of the grant date.
