This show was extra special
for me because I took my sister
(Patty), brother-in-law (Mike), niece (Rachel) and nephew (Andrew).
The kids were excited about the show all day and couldn't
wait to get there. We went to lunch and Rachel was drawing a picture
of Al and I'm looking at it wondering what the heck she was drawing.
She had put high heels on
him. I waited until she was finished and realized what she was
doing. At the bottom of the picture, she wrote "I'm driving
my truck with my high heels on." It
was so cute.
This would be my 11th show of this Running With Scissors Tour.
We arrived at the venue which was smaller than most of the theatres
I'd been in. We were in the second row and I put my sister on
the aisle just in case she might get a scarf or boxers. The opening
act was Rachel, Al's wardrobe girl, and she was just okay. Her
songs all sounded the same but her shirt sure was interesting
though. It was a black shirt with the word "itch" on
it. What those of us up front could see was a piece of black tape
that was covering over the first letter which I'm sure was a "B."
Al came on stage and went right into Eddie Vedder, no Gump tonight.
Also, LAS, Free Delivery, Fast Food or Rabi would not be heard.
Al's voice was definitely strained. I'm not normally a gusher
but during Germs Al's eyes were locked on mine, which seemed like
forever, as he was crawling to the front of the stage. All I can
say is "WOW." During OMM Al came down the center aisle
and gave the first scarf to a girl in the front row who was dancing
in her seat all night. He came past Patty and sang to her and
put his hand under her chin. He made his way to the back of the
venue passing out more scarves but he went back up on stage with
a scarf still around his neck. I don't think he realized it was
still there. He took the boxers out of his pants and looked right
at Patty and threw them really hard so they would reach her but
they fell on the floor and another girl grabbed them away from
her. Oh well!!!
The only thing I saw that was missing was the film during Jurassic
Park. No Barney getting his head bit off. Darn!! I'd have to say
the most shocking thing we saw all night was the Nirvana cheerleaders.
Their tank tops were black but they were also see through. There
was nothing left to the imagination. I'm sure the men in the audience
loved that. I wanted to cover my nephews eyes. :-)
After the show, very few
people stuck around. Dave Rossi, Christina and Amanda Deer were
at this show. Dave presented me with my beautiful engagement ring,
a big black spider ring that he won playing skee ball earlier
in the
day. Thanks sweetie, it's beautiful. Since I was the one who proposed
(it's a pretend engagement), we took a picture of me putting
the ring on HIS finger. I should have done this on bended
knee (sorry Dave).
All of the band members came into the room and Danny seemed to
fit in very well. Ruben was goofy as always and Jon
was his sweet adorable self. Dave then went over and was talking
to the band members and they started getting really
goofy and then posed for another
shot. There were very few people there and when Skip came
in, he informed us that Al would not be talking at all and he
didn't. Al walked into the room almost unnoticed and sat in a
chair (no table in front of him) and he looked very tired. I made my way
over to him and I gave him a small gift and sat beside him
and talked to him (it was very informal). It sure is hard when
the other person can't talk back but he just smiled and shook
his head a lot. Andrew and Rachel were very shy but did get up
enough nerve to ask for an autograph and Andrew
got his picture taken with Al. Rachel really studied
Al as he signed the picture she drew. We left the theatre
with smiles on all of our faces and I think I have four new Al
concert buddies. They loved it.
