Applying to College.......through Facebook?

college-graduates.gif

In a recent article on CNET, the new Facebook application that allows users to apply for college is explained. Created by Embark, the College Planner widget lets prospective college students research schools and then apply to them without actually leaving their Facebook profiles. You can also see which people on your friends list are interested in the same schools. On their Facebook site, here is the College Planner's selling points:
* Applying to college just got easier. Your profile allows you to apply to more than 1,000 colleges with just a click.
* Our advanced school finder suggests schools that 'fit' what you’re looking for.
* Join the Embark-Facebook community today! Find friends and others that are interested in the same schools you’re applying to.
* IT'S FREE! To enjoy even more cool features at no cost just sign-up at Embark.com today!

I am not sure about this one. It just seems a little weird to apply for college using the same website that I can join a group called "1,000,000 Strong for Stephen T Colbert." However, smart move by Embark because at least according to Danah Boyd, Facebook users are college bound.
