In a recent article from PC World, a brave man by the name of Scott decided to not use Office applications (ex. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and just use web based applications. While Scott was skeptical at first, by the end of the week, he did not go back to using Office. Through Gmail, Google Docs, and Zoho, Scott had all the tools he needed to be productive, and he overall liked the features of these web applications. While a movement such as this one from traditional desktop applications to web applications might be imminent, I am still very skeptical of the web applications due to privacy. I do not like to trust third parties to save and protect my files. However, as web applications seem to be the wave of the future, I will have to experiment with them at some point.
