Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM)
 
The scanning tunneling microscope (STM) invented in 1981 by two Nobel Prize researchers, Heinrich Rohrer and Gerd Karl Binnig, uses quantum tunneling currents between the microscope tip and the material being observed to produce images with atomic resolution.
