DEM Map of State College

1) The image above is a DEM of State College PA and bordering towns and cities and was located Julian PA quadrangle. Although I grew up in Durban South Africa State college has been my home for 3 years now.

2) I obtained the DEM file for the website: http://seamless.usgs.gov/ and zoomed in on the state college region and selected black and white imagery

3) I used ArcMap under ArcGIS to create the image.

4) The range in elevation of the DEM map projection is 678 meters.

4) The resolution of the image in picture is 10 pixels which translates to every one pixel being 10 x 10 meters on the earths surface

5) The DEM image is of the valley area of state college and nearby surrounding areas. State college lies between to mountains and it susceptible to an immense amount of run-off due to the valley and the high levels of rain. This is indicated by the blackened areas which represent river and stream systems. The lighter areas are the higher areas which many of the tributaries originate form.

Vector layer for Centre County

1) The Location of the above image is Centre County in central Pennsylvania. The map covers a total area of 2,880km square

2) I obtained the data and different vector layers for the website: http://arcdata.esri.com/data/tiger2000/tiger_download.cfm

3) The three different vector layer I chose for the DLG map are: Urban Areas 2000 (Grey), Traffic Analysis Zones (Black Lines), and Water Polygons (Blue).

DOQQ map of State College

1)This DOQQ is an aerial photo of state college which is compiled and formed form four individual images.

2) The DOQQ image is dated and compiled in the year 1993 and covers the area of State College and surrounding farm land area. The total land area covered by this image is 200 km square.

3) I obtained the DOQQ image form the website: http://seamless.usgs.gov/

4) You can notice that the area was once dominated by farm land and agriculture, which is shown the outlined plots of land. The town is fast developing and is growing outward into the country. The towns major growth area and economic source is form the University and has developed a town around it.
