GEOG 121 Project 6:
Geocoding Addresses with TIGER/Line Files

Robert Drone

Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania

The name of this county is Lackawanna.  The name of this location is 411 E. Drinker St., Dunmore.  Drinker St. runs east-to-west across the map from the far right to the middle.  Close to the right hand side, Drinker St. meets I-81 and I-380.  Going left from my location to the fork, follow the south fork three blocks down.  That is the main intersection in Dunmore, known as Dunmore corners.  At this point, E. Drinker St. becomes W. Drinker St. and runs northeast until it ends at the next fork.  Two of my best friends live in Dunmore.  One lives on Chestnut St., which is the street running north-to-south in the middle of the lower half of the map.  My other friend lives on E. Warren St., which runs parallel to E. Drinker one block to the north.  TIGER/Line data supports the census very well.  When I first tried running this program, it kept giving me the location of 411 W. Drinker St..  But after Adrian showed me how to narrow my search parameters, the map was able to come up with the right location.  At first, when I kept getting the wrong location, I thought the program was inaccurate and not very useful.  Now since I have been shown how to use it efficiently, I think this is a very useful and cool program.  I can see how it can be useful to the census when they have to find specific locations in order to do follow-ups.  And it is pretty amazing how this program can be used to show lots more than road data in the thousands of counties in the country.
