  / ˈwɔtərˌʃɛd, ˈwɒtər-/ [waw-ter-shed, wot-er-]

-noun
an important point of division or transition between two phases, conditions, etc.: The treaty to ban war in space may prove to be one of history's great watersheds.

It's quiet this morning. The weather is turning cooler, encouraging burrowing under the comforter and lounging, with no place to go, nothing to do. Leaves are turning and falling, and the black walnut trees are filling my backyard with their green pods, so that soon I'll have to collect them before the next mowing. I love mornings like this, where I have a fresh pot of coffee, and plenty of space to think.

I find that the start of fall tends to mark the beginning of a new year better than any other point. Maybe it's due to years of school buses, new notebooks and pencils, new classes, new teachers, new friends, and no doubt exacerbated by working in an academic institution. I'm not a "New Year's resolutions" kind of girl; New Year's seems like an arbitrary start point based on a calendar, right in the middle of the dead of winter. However, year after year, we make our way to autumn and we find ourselves turning to a new season, a new school year, and inevitably, new considerations.

It could be that I'm a little antsy because things haven't changed lately. If truth be told, I'm not doing what I love to do, and the impact it's having on my outlook and my attitude is telling. I find more and more that my attention is turning to new avenues of interests and explorations, but without the ability to incorporate them into my work, it can be frustrating. I miss being able to design, to take advantage of tips and tricks I keep seeing in my twitterstream, and exploring things like digital storytelling, blog widgets, and emerging technologies. I miss not being able to take social media to the next level, leveraging my connections and knowledge base to make a difference for others. I try to keep up, but it's getting harder and harder to juggle all the extra pieces of my life. Family, work, friends, interests, life.

I think I've hit a turning point.

If it’s a good idea and it gets you excited, try it, and if it bursts into flames, that’s going to be exciting too. People always ask, ‘What is your greatest failure?’ I always have the same answer—We’re working on it right now, it’s gonna be awesome! —Jim Coudal
