Reimagine the possibilities.

This link recently showed up in my twitter feed, and I must admit I sat and watched the whole thing, impressed at the quality of the effort despite the fact they were lip synching.

Lip Dub - Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger from amandalynferri on Vimeo.

My thoughts afterwards:

  1. Hey, I remember this song! It's a catchy little ditty.
  2. This is fun.
  3. This is community.

Believe it or not, it made me think about the Program Committee for TLT Symposium 2009. It's a committee unlike any other I've been associated with, and if all committees were this productive and imaginative, they wouldn't have such the negative connotation that currently plagues "committee" (because, seriously, don't we all secretly add "...from hell" just like the old fortune cookie trick? You know you do).  The synergy that is created when we are together is almost electrifying, and the ideas start flying as soon as we get together. It's a good thing too, because now we are actually fleshing out these ideas we've come up with, and are ready to put them to the test. Currently, we're thinking about the marketing campaign for this year, and it all has to do with

reImagine: ___________

Now, it is my opinion that these TLT guys are seriously gifted with mad creative skillz. But the rest of us? We shall have to see. Because the project in front of us is to use self created videos to promote this year's symposium and we have to be fun, creative, and not afraid to put ourselves out there. Reimagine things like elearning, classrooms, engagement, community. No matter the word, it's all about people coming together and thinking in new ways. Much like this video. It catches your attention and, if you look closer, it's all about people having ideas and reimagining them, combining materials and forms, and mashing it into a reimagined state. I like that a lot, because it really takes the Web 2.0 to a whole new level of community and contribution. It gets people involved. It gets people thinking. It gets the synergy flowing, which can create the most amazing -- or even simply fun -- things.

Just imagine the possibilities.

I really love this song too—probably because I was the same age as these young people when it came out, but also because it seemed to be to be an angst anthem for thinking people who are frustrated with, but still hopeful, about the way things are. It seems very appropriate to represent a group who are doing things on their own terms, and doing them well.

Nothing great ever got done without re-imagining reality and finding the possibilities, which is not easy to do.

If it’s a good idea and it gets you excited, try it, and if it bursts into flames, that’s going to be exciting too. People always ask, ‘What is your greatest failure?’ I always have the same answer—We’re working on it right now, it’s gonna be awesome! —Jim Coudal
