My name is Rolland Castro and this is my IST 431 blog in which I will discuss multiple facets of how technology and society mingle between each other. I am an IST major going into the Context Option. I enjoy a bunch of activities (If you want the full scoop on my interests Facebook me). I personally feel that technology and society are unified unto a cycle of human progression but I do feel it is rather important to take a step back every now and then see what is happening from an un-socialized point of view.

Technology, in my younger experiences has been one of the most controlling factors in my life. I could remember I used to be very well addicted to technology, especially in terms of entertainment. Now it seems technology has become much more of a chore in the sense that I feel the need to upgrade based on trends and the fact that I enjoy tinkering with the latest releases on stuff whether it be a new version release of software or the latest piece of consumer technology. Because of the chore the practice technology has become, I have found enjoyment in observing technology and society interact. For example, it’s funny to see how an Xbox 360 and a shooting game have drastically affected the culture of my apartment and friends who revolve around roommates who live at our apartment. Over the course of 2 months, terminology, subject matter of conversations and use of free time had changed noticeable due to the effects of my apartment hooked on this single video game. Situations like the example I gave are amazing occurrences to me and make me wonder where else in society (or societies) this could possibly happen and what technologies could perpetrate such changes.
