The contemporary humanities offer an extraordinarily flexible and robust ecology of and for research, writing, performance, installation and composition. This course will involve the fabrication and recycling of tools for such ecologies: theory. As a theory toolbox in process, the course will rigorously wander between three loci of intense contemporary ink spill: Community, Subject, Image. Each will be treated as a problem traversing an aleatory set of discourses, including psychology, biology, poetry, rhetoric, film and fiction. Students will be responsible for short response papers and a work of original research.
