Ecstatic Rhetorics:
Laughter, Pathos and Limit Experience

How to use these notes: These e-notes are intended to remind me what it is we are talking about when we are talking about "ecstatic practice" or, to discuss a small but interesting subset of those practices, rhetoric. As such, these are reminders to a futural self enmeshed with the imaginative and cognitive capacities other than those of the present. Indeed, such capacities will most likely, if I am successful, be quantitatively as well as qualitatively different. Reader's results, therefore, can be encountered as instances of the variability of this algorithm. DO have fun. DON'T complain to me that these notes are stupid: "I am Stupid Before the Other."

We will discuss aspects of each of the following texts. This is a bibliography of the class, not a reading list. Cruise between ten or more of these titles, noting in your journal the sequence and intensities of each reading. Books are available via the usual web sources as well as the university book store.
