Ricardo "Rico" Torres Academics As
a 19
year
old sophomore at The Pennsylvania State University,
Ricardo is currently pursuing a double major and a minor. Through his
coursework on Energy Business and Finance as well as Spanish, Ricardo
aims to seek a position in consulting or human resources with an energy
or services firm. Some of his courses have incorporated the
classical business approach with today's dynamic environment of the
energy industry. His spanish coursework has focused around
the
providal of services and execution of accurate and professional
interpretations and translations between English and Spanish.
Extra Curriculars
His experience working with
the
community through several different projects makes him a prime
candidate to work with community outreach programs, and his high level
of involvement during his college career prime him for a position in college recruiting with corporations. Outside of the
classroom, Ricardo spends his free time serving the
community, at the tennis court or relaxing in his dorm room. Involved
in six different organizations he completes over 300 service hours and
400 administrative hours each year.
Hobbies and Interests
A
4.0 NTRP tennis player of five
years, Ricardo enjoys playing tennis in all kinds of conditions.
His all-court game is back by a solid two-handed backhand
and a
versatile netgame. Although he has never received professional tennis
instruction, through hardwork and his three years in the North
Allegheny Tennis Team, he was able to gather the knowledge to bring
his game up to the 4.0 level out of 7.0 in the NTRP scale.
Outside of the tennis courts you could find
Ricardo reading a book, writing his own material or simply spending
time with his friends. When looking to strike up a
conversation,
your topic choice list is quite vast, from current events to orchids to
movies and more.
Community Service
Since moving to the United States at age 13, Ricardo has embraced the 'servant leader' lifestyle. Perfoming community service through high school he was invited to join the chartering Key Club at North Allegheny Intermediate High School. After falling in love with the organization Ricardo served a two year stint in the Pennsylvania Key Club District Board, as Lietenant Governor and District Secretary. After moving on to college, Ricardo then continued his Kiwanis Family experience by quickly becoming involved with the Penn State Circle K. After a year of involvement as a club officer, Ricardo stepped up and became his division's Lieutenant Governor. A year later in 2006 Ricardo ran and got elected as the Pennsylvania Circle K District Governor. Currently he oversees the operations of a district that is 38 clubs strong and boasts over 840 members in Pennsylvania. |
