Animals vary dramatically in size and weight (both within and among species), inhabit a variety of environments (e.g. air, water, terrestrial) and experience fluctuating environmental conditions. All animals need to move their bodies through these environments and most do so quite well. We seek to understand the morphological and physiological adaptations that allow animals to optimally support and move their body, and how these mechanisms are affected by variation in biotic and abiotic environmental factors.
