Common name: Astilbe

Other cultivars and species: Many named cultivars and hybrids are on the market. Common species in the landscape include A. chinensis, A. x arendsii, A  x rosea, and hybrids.

Identifying characteristics: Very characteristic three part leaves often further divided into 5’s. Flowers on a plume like spike in pink. white or purple

Culture and use notes: Excellent perennial garden or border plant. Useful in mass plantings or as specimens. Spent flower heads can also be attractive in the winter/fall garden. Usually grown in part shade but can be grown in more sun if provided adequate irrigation.
