Dicentra eximia

Dicentra spectabilis aka Lamprocapnos spectabilis 

Common name:  D. eximia = Fringed Bleeding heart, D. spectabilis = Bleeding heart

Other cultivars and species: Several cultivars of each and some hybrids are available commercially. Dicentra spectabilis  is the accepted name according to the Missouri Botanical Garden. RHS and USDA list Lamprocapnos spectabilis as the accepted name.

Family: Fumariaceae (Papaveraceae)

Zone: 3,4-9.

Identifying characteristics: D. eximia, Large compound highly divided silver grey fern-like leaves with heart shaped flowers on a nodding spike. D. spectabilis  Highly dissected large green leaves and heart shaped flowers on a nodding spike.

Culture and use notes:  Use in woodland garden or border. L. spectabilis goes dormant in late summer.
