Phytoremediation and Green roof research
My main research project is the study of green roofs in North America. I am director of the Center for Green Roof Research at Penn State, and have been working with green roofs since 2001. We have investigated water quality and quantity issues, energy balance, media considerations and standardized testing, waterproofing materials testing, plant selection, growth, survival and establishment.
Before we began the green roof work the main emphasis of my program was the design, function and use of constructed wetlands to treat wastewater from greenhouses and nurseries, and the use of wetlands and plants to treat industrial pollutants
