Emergining Web 2.0 Technologies & Learning (EdTec 498)

Brief Description

Instructor: Phil Tietjen Email

Social media (also commonly known as Web 2.0) have become an increasingly more pervasive part of our daily lives. From personal applications like Facebook and Twitter to collaborative applications such as Wikipedia, Diigo, and YouTube, we are witnessing a shift in how people interact with the Web. Instead of simply consuming information, they are actively engaging with the Web. Instead of just reading, they are blogging, commenting, tweeting, podcasting, remixing, and mashing. In other words, people are approaching these as participatory technologies. In this course, we look at the question of how these tools be used to support learning? We also consider the impact on teaching and learning. How is the pedagogical landscape altered as a result of introducing these technologies? For further details, check the links to the right.
