The Journey of a Fourth Grade Intern . . .

professionalpic2.jpg
My name is Paige Harris. I am currently a senior at The Pennsylvania State University pursuing a degree in Elementary and Kindergarten Education and a minor in Human Development and Family Studies. Last spring, I was fortunate enough to be accepted into the Professional Development School, which is a teacher preparation partnership between Penn State and the State College Area School District. As a result of this invitation, I am currently participating in the year-long student teaching internship program. I am gaining insight into the teaching profession through a combination of methods courses and in-class experience as a fourth grade intern at Park Forest Elementary School. I know that this year will be one of the greatest learning experiences for me as I prepare for my future career as an educator!

Currently, for my fourth grade classroom, I am planning and implementing numerous lessons throughout the week, including math, reading group, spelling, writing, science, and social studies lessons. Aside from teaching, I am also conducting an inquiry focusing on ways to increase student participation in whole-group math discussions!
