Welcome to my website:   I am a DUS Programs Specialist in the Division of Undergraduate Studies at Penn State Altoona, and also serve as the Campus Contact/Resource Representative for programs housed in the College of Education.  Most, but not all, students I advise are in teacher preparation programs.  While the University subscribes to the policy that students should consult with their academic adviser at least once a semester to decide on courses, review the accuracy of their degree audit, and check on progress towards Entrance to Major and graduation; I strongly encourage my advisees to meet with me at least two-three times each semester allowing me to understand each advisee’s particular concerns regarding their individual academic progress.  I also encourage my advisees to become familiar with the College of Education’s advising site found at http://www.ed.psu.edu/edservices  This site provides the most current information regarding Entrance to Major requirements and information that should be of interest to students who are currently enrolled in, or exploring Teacher Certification programs.

I welcome contact by my advisees and those interested in undergraduate programs in the College of Education.  For simple inquiries, e-mail me at pft1@psu.edu.  For more in-depth concerns, please make an appointment to meet with me in my office in C106 Smith Building.  IF I AM LISTED AS YOUR ADVISER (check eLion), SCHEDULE APPOINTMENTS ON LINE AT http://www.altoona.psu.edu/stuadvise, IF NOT, YOU WILL NEED TO CALL (814) 949-5158.

I have enjoyed my work in the DUS Advising Center over the past 30 years, and encourage those seeking help or advice on academic or advising issues at Penn State Altoona to stop in and see us at C112 E. Raymond Smith Building.

Education: I received both my 2 Letters, Arts, and Sciences and Criminal Justice degrees from Penn State Altoona, and completed my Master's in Adult Education at University Park in August 2005.  I am a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, the Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society, and the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education.

This is what I do when I’m not working: I am an avid theater and movie buff, and also enjoy reading biographies. Other areas of interest and study for me are photography, astronomy, and meteorology. I collect lighthouses, large and small (Old Barney on Long Beach Island, NJ is a favorite!). Walking my two year old collie, Heidi, is my stress release!!!!

Favorite vacation spots: My two favorite vacation spots are Long Beach Island, NJ, and New York City. The first satisfies my longing for peace and tranquility, and the second satisfies my desire for excitement and entertainment.
