Dear Members and Friends:
Welcome to the University Women's Club for the year 2009-2010.
Our board has started planning our events and activities for 2009-2010 since May. Our first gathering of the year, the Fall Reception, will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the Nittany Lion Inn. Besides this, there will be a new member event on September 25th. Two more fall events in October and our exciting annual shopping trip in November will follow.
I would like to thank Dr. Sandra Spanier, our honorary President, for her continued support and contributions to our club. Dr. Sandra Spanier will present our scholarship winners with certificates during our Fall Reception. We hope that you will consider continuing your support to our scholarship fund when you renew your membership.
This past June, Lurene Frantz, Teddy Nicholas, Marilyn Gouran, and I attended the 13th Biennial Conference of Big Ten Women’s Organizations hosted by University of Wisconsin, Madison. It was a wonderful experience for us. We represented Penn State and our wonderful club, and we were also able to refresh our Big Ten friendships, to share UWC activities during the past two years, and to learn from the experiences of others. The next Big Ten Conference will be held at Purdue University in 2011. Please read Lurene Frantz’s summary about the conference in this newsletter. Also, Charlene Harrison has a short report regarding our scholarship fund.
This year, we will continue to enhance our website. This website will include information about our membership, activities, interest groups, newsletters, and board members. A membership application form may be found by clicking on the membership form link on the top. Our New Member Vice-President also has the new member pamphlets ready for you to share with your friends.
It is my great honor to serve as your President this year. I look forward to seeing you and your friends at the Fall Reception. It will be a great time to renew our friendships, to welcome new members, and to sign up for our various interest groups’ activities and trips. I hope to see you at many activities throughout the year. Let us make our 61st year a memorable beginning for the next 60 years to come!
Sincerely,
Michelle Yen
