About Nari

Nothing private here though!

Yada, it is tough to write about oneself in free space. When I write an anonymous autobiography, be sure to buy that book!

Jokes aside, I am a researcher in the field of Energy Sciences and Engineering at Pennstate. I am working on both scientific and engineering aspects of fluidized bed combustion. In the near future I am working on realigning my research focus to make it center more on the engineering aspects of waste fuel combustion in fluidized bed combustors. Pennsylvania has lot of coal waste (culm) from anthracite mining of the past several decades and this solid waste is a serious problem from an ecological and aesthetic point of view. Leaching of acidic matter into the water bodies and ground due to rain/snow contact with the culm and just plain unsightliness have been driving forces for the state goverment to give large incentives to companies that are into solid waste disposal. Some of those companies include ones running FBC power plants. However, these companies also have problems dealing with the ash generated from the coal combustion.

Now, on to the personal stuff about me. I was born in India - the land of truth [©] (facts-cia), in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. I grew up in Delhi and did my schooling at a Delhi Tamil Educational Association School. Then I went to IIT Madras (Chennai) for my B.Tech degree in Naval Architecture. I had a great time while at IITM (more on the IITs here), especially at Jamuna 6thwing®. Then I decided to pursue an MS in fluid mechanics related subjects in the US at UCSB. Then I got a little confused with life and at the same time the stock-tech-bubble burst, partly a reason that I ended up not getting a chance to work full time in Europe or pursue a PhD at EPFL& IBM. Instead I moved to an area with similar temperate climate - Pennsylvania! And I have taken quite well to my time at Central PA, here at the "Happy Valley" - home of the Nittany Lions.
