I spent the first 18 years of my life on a beautiful island in the Caribbean. Barbados is the most easterly island in the Caribbean chain which stretches from Florida on the North American mainland to the Guianas on the northern mainland of South America. It stands in splendid isolation at Latitude 13° North and Longitude 59° 37W. With 23 kilometers (14 miles) at its widest point and 34 kilometers (21 miles) long, it is a mere 416 square kilometers (166 square miles). I completed my undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering at Howard University in Washington, D.C. where I was an active member in the National Society of Black Engineers, AIChE , The Howard Gospel Choir and several other campus organizations. Things that get me through the day: · The Word · For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. · Music: Jazz, Gospel, Neo-Soul, R&B, Soca, Reggae · “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” This inspiring quote by Marianne Williamson is from her book, A Return To Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles, Harper Collins, 1992.
