Analytical Cartography Lab

Research conducted in this laboratory broadly focuses on spatial analysis of human behavior. The main emphases of investigation include but are not limited to:

  1. The development of socio-political complexity
  2. Conflict, warfare, resistance, and diplomacy
  3. Pedestrian movement
Scales of analysis ranges from landscapes, sites, households, and artifact scatters, to individual artifacts. These broad ranging subjects and scales are unified by spatially oriented approach to understanding.

Investigators are examining case studies in:
  • Central Mexico (Hirth, Luna)
  • Ecuador (Dyrdahl)
  • Peru (Brown Vega and Craig)
  • Syria (Hritz)
At present, the pages associated with this website are largely focused on research that is being conduced in Peru. Those interested in other research projects run out of the PSU Anthropology GIS lab are encouraged to turn to the Department of Anthropology web site.
