Everytime people ask me "Who is your advisor?", I know I have a tough time to go.
"My advisor is Professor McGill."
"Who?"
"Professor William McGill."
"Oh..Is he in CSE?"
"No, he is IST faculty."
"Oh really? Sorry, his name again?"
"Professor William McGill"
"What's his research area?"
"Damage assessment, risk analysis etc"
"What is damage assessment? "
"Blablablablabla"
"What is risk analysis?"
"Blablablablabla"
This kind of conversation happens almost everyday. Thanks to Professor Tapia that gives me this opportunity to officially introduce my advisor Professor William McGill grandly..
Professor William McGill received his bachelar degree from USC and his master and Ph.D. degree from UMD in probability engineering. I believe no professor in IST has background in probability thus the diversity of IST expanded again.
Professor McGill's research interests including uncertainty modeling, and decision analysis applied to homeland security, defense, and intelligence problems. Right now, I am working with him in the area of damage assessment and decision analysis.
Now let me introduce something outside academic of Professor McGill.
Prof.McGill is from USA(obviously..) and he grew up in NYC.He has married for ten years and has two kids.(Unbelievable...He looks so young!!) From my point of view, he looks very handsom(based on standards of handsom in Shanghai). I think he is talktive and humorous. His interest outside research is advising. At first I think he was kidding, but now I understand why he served as consultant in the government department for several years. He rides bicycle to work and he also likes playing a particular kind of percussion instrument. (I'm sorry, I forgot the name of it.) He drinks all kinds of coffee and almost all kinds of food except jellyfish, sea slug and sea cucumber. His favorite movie is The Fifth Element.
The person that professor McGill admires is Dr.Lofti A Zadeh, who will come to our 590 soon.
