I can't believe it's been almost two months since my last post - I guess it really is true that time flies when you're having fun. No sarcasm there, this summer HAS been fun... and busy... and stressful in a GOOD way... unless it was stressful in a bad way... I digress.
Some work examples (click the thumbnails to see full-size working versions):
ASTRO
This activity requires students to complete a concept map by dragging terms from a list and dropping them into the correct position on the map. Get it right and Flash praises you, get it wrong and Flash isn't happy at all. Can YOU get 9/9? It's definitely tougher than it sounds. In retrospect, I'm wondering if we should have added an "I give up - show the answers already" button or something similar - then again, I learned a lot about nebulae just by trying to figure out where things go.
This animation illustrates the Roche Limit. It's pretty straightforward and the trickiest part was getting the exploding dust cloud to look believable (admit it, you weren't going to click the link until I said "exploding dust cloud"). Actually, I'm not sure how I missed the slight hitch just before the particles start orbiting, but that will have to be fixed...
NUTR
The Nutrition faculty members have decided to sprinkle flash self-assessment activities throughout the course to allow students to judge their level of understanding - which is a great idea and something that Flash is perfectly suited for. This one is a little more complex than some of the others we've done and hopefully it's not too busy, but it does showcase a few of the capabilities that make Flash a great assessment tool.
This is another in our series of shopping basket drag and drops, with a bit of a twist. Instead of dragging the actual products to the shopping baskets you have to drag various product claims. Ok so it's not much of a twist. Actually I just wanted to show off my life-like Cheerios box.
