I gave a brief update to the Dean's Library Council (DLC) this week on DLT current and new projects:
The annual hardware lifecycle is complete for the CCL and finishing up at UP. DLT has been busy this summer implementing hardware network firewalls at library locations at UP; nearly all locations are now installed and activated. We have also just started the migration project from Meeting Maker to Oracle Calendar with an anticipated cut-over date of early February. The project manager for this project is Kurt Baker, ITS Consultant with a project team from UL and ITS. Details on training for the Oracle calendar and other aspects of the project will be available shortly.
I also talked about three new collaborative projects between the Libraries and ITS:
1. ITS is partnering with the Libraries to support the Knowledge Commons integrated services model and enhance IT support for students, as well as reassessing IT support in general across the Libraries. This Friday, October 12th, an update on new IT support services will be held from 11:00 - 12:00 in Foster Auditorium. These services include ITS Support Services - library printing rover support and lab consultant support - that have been recently introduced at UP.
2. A repository prototype project is currently getting started to support the long-term storage and archiving of the institutional data from the Blue Book and Course Submission and Consultation Systems.
3. The third project is a collaboration to pilot mobile devices for applications such as "roving reference," as well as establishing a process for piloting emerging technologies.
Now will attempt to post entries with more information on each of these (not "right now," however ....).
