As explained in this article there are big plans for the internet. According the FCC by 2020 100 million Americans will have Internet speeds of 100 Mbps, which is about 25 times faster than the above average Internet speed now. Most people today have Comcast, Verizon Fios, or some satellite company such as DIRECTV as their internet service provider. The typical speed provided by these companies is about 5 Mbps with speeds varying from 3 Mbps up to 10 Mbps. These speeds will be what dialup is now to us in 2020, unbearably slow. The FCC plans on accomplishing this goal by diverting 15.5 billion dollars over the next ten years from telephone service for poor people and rural areas to enhancing the internet infrastructure. I honestly cannot wait to be able to download a 1080p HD movie in less than 10 minutes.
If you would like to test your internet speed to see how fast you are really connecting go to Speedtest.net and see how well you do, or you can watch this video of someone who uses it to compare regular At&t connection versus a premium one.
