Our team was given the Crest Spinbrush with soccer action. Overall it was a poor toothbrush that was neither aesthetically pleasing nor functional. It performed poorly in many areas including ergonomics, battery life, and quality. In our redesign we decided to completely overhaul the design and start from scratch, not utilizing virtually everything from the old design. We came up with a variety of concepts, but our final one included a head with dual movement, vertical and horizontal, a rubber grip, stand, and brush cover. It was an enormous improvement over the old design.

The first electronic toothbrush was distributed in Sweden in 1939, but it would take 30 years before that technology came to the United States. They were fairly expensive when first introduced and it has only been recently that the electric toothbrush has become affordable for all social classes. Crest is a brand made by the company Procter & Gamble. Our model of the Crest Spinbrush was only recently conceived in order to promote good dental hygiene in children using cartoon characters and sports as an incentive to brush. Our toothbrush specifically uses soccer in order to get youngsters to brush. It has a unique soccer action which has a picture that rotates, changing the picture whenever the toothbrush is turned on. We first took apart the toothbrush to figure out how it works and then tried to think of ways to improve it. We used a morphology tree to created concepts and overall created 12 different concepts. We then used a screening process to find the four best models and eventually ended up choosing the number one concept.
