Assessment Plan

Summary of the Plan:
The Assessment Plan for the Bio12/Intro Bio Lab course will survey both students AND faculty throughout the semester. In our plan, we will survey:
  • Students 3 times during the semester; after Module 3, after Module 6 and post course
  • Faculty 10 times during the semester; after each of the first 9 Modules and post course

Status:
  • The Assessment Plan was reviewed and approved by Richard Cyr on Wednesday, January 27th. We have delivered the first two surveys to students and analyzed the results
  • The third and final survey will be delivered at the end of April 2010.

Results of Student Assessments (Evaluation of Course)
Student Assessment #1: This assessment was delivered to students after they completed the first 3 modules of the course. None of the first 3 modules contained a Google Doc assessment so it was expected that students would have a generally favorable attitude toward the course.
Student Assessment #2: This assessment was delivered to students after they completed modules 4 through 6. None of the first 3 modules contained a Google Doc assessment so it was expected that students would have a generally favorable attitude toward the course.
Student Assessment #3: This assessment will be delivered after students complete the final module of this course at the end of April 2010. Analysis and raw information will be posted here.

Results of Assessment Submission Rates
We are also tracking the rate of learning assessment submissions by the students in each of the 16 sections of this course. This only relates to the Google Doc assessments that students are properly putting in their section's ANGEL dropbox. For example, if there are 24 students in a section and 21 students hand in their Google Doc PDF properly, the submission rate for that section is 87.5% (21/24). We track each module assessment in the following ways:
  • By each of the 16 course sections
  • By each course of which there are two (Bio 12 and Bio 110)
  • Overall rate
Per Richard Cyr's opinion, the overall goal was to see submission rates in the low 90's. We felt that this was a reasonable expectation that would indicate that the student's were able to properly use Google Docs to perform their assessment work.
