ANGEL in the classroom

I consistently use ANGEL, Penn State's Course Managment System, in order to incorporate additional instructional and evaluation tools into the classes I teach, as well as enhance course management and optimize communication with my students. Every week, my students view a brief video on ANGEL and/or access a Power Point covering a particular grammar point and then subsequently complete quizzes, which are also designed and completed in ANGEL. Below is an image of the screen where students access first the grammatical explanation and then the corresponding quizzes.

An image of a quiz that students would actually complete upon finishing the grammatical instruction is illustrated below.

After ANGEL automatically grades the quizzes, it then sends each student's grade to the gradebook. In addition, I use this gradebook feature to record other grades for organizational purposes and so that students always have access to their current grade.

Furthermore, after presenting each lesson in class, I make it immediately available to my students by posting it in the “Lessons” section of the online course space designated for that particular class. Then, by opening the weekly folders seen in the screen shot below, students can access the Power Point presentations that were used in class in order to review the material.

I also consistently use ANGEL in order to facilitate communication with the students in my classes. I have found the discussion boards and email options available in ANGEL to be excellent ways to optimize two-way communication with students as well as amongst students themselves. For example, I often send emails to an entire class through ANGEL, and then students will respond with follow-up questions, as seen below.

Moreover, I use the calendar provided in the class space allotted for each of the sections I teach as a means of one-way communication. For example, it is here that I can post assignments, due dates and reminders for the students.
