Volcanology, Petrology, and Geochemistry at Penn State

Welcome to the VPG group at Penn State!
The professors, graduate students, and undergraduate students in the VPG group use geochemical, geophysical, and petrographic techniques to understand magmatic and volcanic processes.  We are particularly interested in understanding the mechanisms and timescales of magma generation, transport, and eruption.  Our studies combine exciting field work in places like Africa, Iceland, Japan, and the Andes with rigorous laboratory techniques including electron probe microanalysis, laser ablation ICP-MS, high-pressure experiments, and computer modeling.
