I was born in San José, Costa Rica. My education began in the French-Costa Rican school, where I studied until the 4th grade only because I moved to the United States with my family. I enrolled in the State College Area School District until the ninth grade. When I was 15 my family returned to Costa Rica, where I completed high school and majored in Anthropology at the University of Costa Rica. I worked for a semester at the Central American Population Center. I then returned to the U.S. to study at the Pennsylvania State University, where I completed my Master's in Anthropology and Demography, and where I am currently in the final stages of my PhD.
