- Develop educational materials and in-service training for extension educators;
- Communicate and build collaborative activities with sustainable-ag related NGOs;
- Organize farm-based education events;
- Create and maintain web sites and newsletters for PSU-SAWG and PA-WAgN; and
- Conduct needs assessments for growers and ag extension educators in the areas of sustainable ag and women and agriculture.
In My Professional Life....
For the past 12 years, I've worked as a university writer, educator, and educational designer, making the work of academics and policy researchers more accessible to the public.
I was the managing editor of a University of Tennessee policy journal, FORUM for Applied Research and Public Policy for six years. At FORUM, I wrote book reviews and solicited and edited articles in the fields of energy, environment, economics, and science and technology. I was also responsible for grant writing and marketing, as well as writing newsletter articles. (Click here to take a look at some of my articles.)
I designed on-line courses for Penn State's World Campus from 2001 to 2005. Here's an example of my work: https://courses.worldcampus.psu.edu/welcome/lir100/x04pw/ In 2005, I came to the College of Agriculture where I work for the Sustainable Ag Working Group and the Women's Ag Network. As an extension associate working in sustainable agriculture, I help support farmers in their efforts to protect the environment, stay in business, and stay on the farm.
In My Private Life...
My husband and I are the parents of four grown children: three sons and a daughter. We have a family farm in Huntingdon County, Clan Stewart Farm, where we raise registered Shorthorn cattle, pastured poultry, and vegetables. I'm an organic gardener, an advocate for sustainable agriculture, a church pianist, and an avid reader.
