Comment on "What makes a great team?"

I think the one thing you can duplicate (though maybe not with the same person every time) is the empowering (and empowered) team leader. There are some vital leadership skills present here: high expectations of the team, motivates team to keep schedule, respect from team members (to name a few)

Put the right people in charge (or give the people in charge better skills)

- John Meier

Comment on "Relevancy"

I couldn't agree more with you and Barbara - we'll only be limited by our imagination, and motivated additionally by the overwhelming need for these kinds of spaces, capabilities. I'm starting to try and think about how we expand the group of people who share our urgency and perspective of "this is necessary" as opposed to "this would be nice."

- kevin

Comment on "Next Generation"

Here's another Gen-Y article: http://www.news.com/2008-1022_3-6195553.html

What interested me were 1) the emphasis on product versus process, and 2) unitasking versus multitasking--meetings being the ultimate unitask.

It will be interesting to see how this generation as well as new collaborative technologies will shape the way we do business in higher ed. What will our calendars look like in the future?

- Nikki Massaro Kauffman

I hear you (no pun intended)! When our cordless phones died at home, we never got around to replacing them. It's been over a year now, and now I don't think I want to:

We discovered without the convenience of the cordless phones, we are less likely to spend time on meaningless calls and more likely to either screen calls or get off the phone quickly. We spend much more quality family time at home this way!

- Nikki Massaro Kauffman

I don't often remember the telephone conversation I had with my Mom or brother, but I do feel better from having been connected. For me, IM, twitter, etc. are more like the telephone more often than not where the humanize my relationship more than digitize it. Sometimes these tools are used for "substantive" exchange relating to "business" - and I usually remember them. OK, I don't remember them either but that's a gray matter issue - what I do do is write it down, etc. :-) .

- kevin

Yes, but life is more than gathering and cataloging information, one has to let it incubate and create. Data are just fuel for the engine of human thought and creativity. no?
So what kinds of outcomes for human cognition interests you?

- Godspeede

well, philosophically gestalt rules, as in the whole is more than the sum of its parts (not to be obvious lol) - none the less I have found that by focusing on the bricks the wall can make sense

- Godspeede
