The 1951 New York Times Magazine featured Infantryman John J. Allen in battle regalia, climbing a rocky ridge on the dividing line between North and South Korea.The photograph entitled "The 38th Parallel" was honored as "Picture of the Year" in 1951 and is the property of the Defense Department and is filed with other historic photographs, such as those titled "Spirit of Seventy-Six" and "Raising the Flag at Iwo Jima."

      Jack and his parents lived at 9 East Frack Street for many years. He graduated from FHS in 1947 and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism in ground combat north of Seoul, Korea, May 20, 1951. The ceremony was held at Indiantown Gap Military Reservation on August 27, 1951
