My Curriculum

Brief biography

I was born in Lima, Peru, where I lived and studied the most part of my life. I am currently a PhD student at Penn State University. Here, I am studying Latin American Literature and Human Geography. Both are fields that I love and enjoy because they offer me a particular sense of the world. In the case of Literature, I do believe that fiction is just another way to keep us in touch with the reality and another mean to understand it better. Regarding Human Geography, I do believe that our location in the world can positively change oneself or alienate it. This is why I consider that it is important to observe all the different human performances in all the different environments. In any case, it is important to keep in mind that both words and spaces can give us a good picture of our societies.

Ramdom things about me: I enjoy watching Science Fiction Japanesse Animes. What I like about them is the fact that they metaphorically underline the disposability of some workers within a capitalist and/or neoliberal economy. Therefore, I think, the ciborg's representation opens a space for interrogation. The cyborg enables the inquiry into capitalist means of production, as well as the inquiry into the power of certain postmodern imaginaries. Donna Haraway's "The cyborg Manifest" sheds light on this discussion. Using the 'cyborg metaphor', she also talks about the idea of hybrid cultures and liminal spaces. Both aspects, I believe, are fundamental in the analysis of literary works.

Another different interest has to do with one of my experiences as an unergraduate: When I was living in Peru, I had the opportunity to read some texts about linguistics problems as dyslexia. This fact gave me the opportunity to collaborate with some lay groups in helping some children who lived this kind of problems. I would be glad to do it again. Feel free to contact me, send me an E-mail lac321@psu.edu

I also enjoy water skiing, I love swimn , biking, and hiking. I believe in science, love my mum and dad, and I truly endorse the idea that everything evolves... I hope...
