I earned a BSc in Land Surveying and MSc in Geoinformatics (GIS) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 1999 and 2001 respectively. The focus of my Master thesis was to develop a web-based geospatial metadata system, where data custodians and data users can publish and search their metadata using a textually and spatially-aware mechanism. This study resulted a proceedings paper at the AURISA 2001 conference in Melbourne.

Because of the interest on environmental study, right after the degree, I participated in a research that focused on pollution prevention and water quality improvement for Southern Malaysia. The findings from this research allowed me to publish a poster paper at AGILE2003 conference in France.

After the study of environmental improvement, I worked as a research associate at University of Muenster, Germany in 2004. My task for this position was to develop a semantic web services discovery tool with Java programming language. Given my interest on ontologies, I published a refereed paper at GIScience 2004 conference on action-based ontologies. In the same year, I was also invited as a young scientist to participate in the International Dagstuhl Seminar on Semantic Interoperability and Integration.

I am now a PhD student at Department of Geography, the Pennsylvania State University. My major research interests are geographic information science and geospatial semantic web. How the geographic information can seamlessly be interoperated becomes my major concern!
