Rules of the game:
1. Class
will be subdivided into their groups
2. Members
of the group will be sent to the front of the class in intervals, groups are
not allowed to send the same person up to draw a card until everyone else in
the group has gone
3. The
person delegated from the group will draw a card with a word or combing form
4. Each
word / combining form will be worth two points – one point for the actual word
/ combining form and one point for the definition
5. If
the person knows the definition for the word, they may use that in their
description to the group – group will automatically gain one point
a. For
example if the word was aden(o) – the person could say “combining form meaning
pertaining to a gland.”
6. If
the person does not know the definition, they are responsible for articulating
the word to the group without using the actual word allowing the group to guess
the word. If the group guesses the word,
they gain one point and they have the opportunity to gain an additional point
if they can also define it.
a. For
example, again if the word was aden(o) – the person could say something like,
“a singular version of Fred Flinstone’s pet.”
b. The
group would guess aden(o) – spelling does not matter for this game and be
awarded one point
c. The
group would then have the ability to define the word saying “combining form
meaning pertaining to a gland” and be awarded the additional point
7. Each
word has a time limit of 45 seconds
8. At
the end the winner will be determined by the group with the most points

Summary of Meeting
Agenda/Accomplishments (copied from Message Forum):
a. Right
now we have laid out some ground work for what we are doing. Kari, Jenn and I
have met already as we discussed on Friday that we would as a group. I am sorry
no one else was present but I am sure there were other pressing matters that
needed attending.
b. So
we have chapters 14 & 15. Our presentation date is currently slated for
11/16/2007. Unfortunately, I will not be around for that date as I will be on a
plane bound for Mexico to tour Mayan ruins. I spoke with Dr. Glumac and he said
we could push back our date to 11/12/2007, if the entire group agreed. Then we
would also need to get class agreement to have the test on 11/16/2007 instead
of the day we come back from Thanksgiving vacation.
c. So
Jenn is going to work on an outline for Chapter 14 and I am going to work on an
outline for Chapter 15. Then we will pass our outlines around the group and
Kari will take it home over the weekend and come up with a rough draft of our
study guide/outline handout we will hand out.
d. And
we probably will doing a twisted version of Taboo as our game. The idea was to
come up with three levels of difficulty in words/combining forms. Point value
assign them 1/2/3. The group can then chose the difficulty level they want to
do. One person comes up and draws a card with the word/form on it. If they know
the definition, they can use that and the team can guess off of that, they get
it right they earn the points. If they get it wrong, the other two teams can then
guess on it based upon the lowest point team first. Then if the person does not
know the definition, they must some how sound it out for the team (without
using the word). Once the team knows what the word is, they still must define
it to earn the points.
e. At
this point both Kari and Jenn have voted for me to be group leader. I voted for
Bill Clinton but he was absent evidently.
f. So
we will discuss this more on Friday and have a skeleton of a plan laid out for
the group work.
