Katherine M. Johnson
Ph.D. Candidate in Sociology and Demography (exp. Spring 2011)
Minor in Women's Studies
My major research and teaching interests are sociology of reproduction, feminist family sociology, sociology of gender, and sociology of health and illness. I am currently working on my dissertation project which is an analysis of gamete donation (i.e. egg and sperm donation) practices in the U.S. My project bridges major ethical questions on human reproduction with sociological perspectives on family, gender, and inequality. I explore four major themes in my project: family boundaries and privacy, access to reproductive services, reproductive autonomy, and medical markets in gamete donation.
