 Intellectual Content Selection Criteria

 

·           Research Value

o   Significantly reflects the political, economic and cultural history of the State

o   Statewide or regional influence

o   Important as a source of information about a variety of ethnic, racial, political, economic, religious, or other special audiences or interest groups

o   "paper of record" at the state or county level

o   Contain published legal notices

o   News of state and regional governmental affairs

o   Announcements of community news and events, including births, deaths, and marriages

 

·           Geographic Representation

o   Broad geographic coverage

o   State coverage or at least multi-county coverage of a majority of the population

 

·           Temporal Coverage

o   Long continuous run

 

·           Refined Selection Criteria

o   Bibliographic completeness of microfilm copy

o   Orphan titles

o   Diversity

o   Duplication of others efforts

 

 Microfilm Image Quality Selection Criteria

 

·           Complete title run available on microfilm

 

·           Quality of original text and microfilm capture

 

·           Technical inspection of the camera master negative (1N)

o   Reduction ratio less than 20x

o   Resolution test line patterns readable at 5.0 or higher

o   Narrow density range (.90-1.20)

§  Variations in density readings of no more than 0.20 within and image and between exposures

 

  Usable Optical Character Recognition (OCR) confidence levels from scanned    
  duplicate negative (2N)
