Course Descriptions

Spanish 003

I will be teaching Spanish 003 during the Spring 2009 semester at Penn State. Spanish 003 is designed for non-native speakers of Spanish who have sucessfully completed Spanish 002 at PSU or the equivalent level at another university. Two hours of the 4-credit one semester courses are completed in class and the rest (instruction + homework) is fulfilled on-line using ANGEL. The purpose of this course is to develop and improve communication skills when listening, reading, speaking, and writing in Spanish. The course follows a communicative information-based task approach, which springs from the idea that languages are best learned when real world information becomes the focus of students’ activities. Therefore, during the semester, you will exchange real-life information about yourself and your classmates.

Spanish 003 will review some topics covered in previous classes during the first weeks of the semester, such as expressing events that occurred inthe past. During the rest of the semester, the future and conditional tenses willbe learned, as well as the expression of hypothetical situation using the subjunctive. Pertinent vocabulary topics will also be introduced. For more information, please see the Spanish 003 syllabus, found on the SBLP website.
